Its never easy to be a whistle blower or in this case just someone accused of passing on classified information, they know what consequences their actions might bear for them but still they do them. Why? is it Fame they seek? or riches? Each one of them whether its Edward Snowden or Bradley Manning, putting themselves in danger to get fame. I don't think so! its too much of a price to pay.
Are there any Diplomatic Complexities in Snowden's Asylum Request?
Prosecution based their case on one particular civil war trial of private Henry Vanderwater who was charged with aiding the enemy by leaking union roster to Alexandria Newspaper in Virginia. He was sentenced to three months hard labor and was dishonorably discharged from service. But in the end Judge Denise decided to acquit the charge. Manning's defense tried to carry out the case in manning's favor by arguing that young manning's actions were well intended, that by these actions he wanted to spark global debate on U.S Foreign policy and nothing else!
Bradley Manning a U.S solider was stationed in Iraq near Baghdad when he was arrested for allegedly transferring Classified information to Wiki leaks on May 2010. He was charged with 22 offenses of which one was aiding enemy. The suspicion on which Bradley arrested was instilled by a Computer Hacker named Adam Lamo to FBI. Adam Claimed to be confidant of Manning; told FBI that Manning according to their online chat had downloaded material from databases and transferred it to Wiki leaks, material that included some 500,000 army reports pertaining to Iraq War Logs and Afghan War Logs along with 250,000 Diplomatic Cables and videos of 12 July Baghdad airstrike and 2009 Granai airstrike in Afghanistan. All this info no doubt bolstered the arrest of Manning plus 22 charges.
Manning's court marshal lasted for some seven weeks that follows the verdict by Judge colonel Denise lind that found manning guilty of 20 charges including theft and digital Fraud but what is surprising in this affair is that manning was acquitted of the most important charge and that was of aiding the enemy, this action on part of the military judge has forced many to raise eyes as to why judge will acquit him of most serious charge while holding on to all other charges. is it because she like many others thinks that 25 years old manning has had not leaked information with general evil intent? it most certainly seems to be the very reason.
This scenario dose provoke a thought in many minds; the persons who put their lives at stake by disclosing official information that draws back the curtain from government wrong doings while knowing the price, is it right to convict them?!
