The Spectacular Now Review

THE-SPECTACULAR-NOW
There are some movies that focus on very serious and rare stories that hold true for so many people, we may not even know it but they may be present amongst us. The spectacular Now is a comedy and teen drama film that focuses on a coming of age story. Two lead characters Sutter and Aimee have different views about future but still they find a connection between them that draws them close, closer then they anticipated.

The story of the film perfectly depicts the ordinary lives of teenagers in quite an extraordinary way and their attitudes towards life. I mean its just amazing how the story rolls out as a teen romance that is so much exhilarating just like a teenagers life.

The Spectacular Now is based on the novel with the same name written by Tim Tharp. The storyline is very simple one. Sutter Keely played by Miles Teller is a party animal sort of high school boy who gets drunk quite often, right after being dumped by a beautiful blond girl he meets

Aimee played by shailene Woodly. Aimee is just the opposite of Sutter mainly in terms of view on life and future. Sutter just wants to be with Aimee to make his ex Jealous but along the lines something happens that neither of them expected, they fall for each other and a connection between them starts to grow strong.
THESPECTACULARNOW

It is that connection between the two that makes Aimee as well as the viewers about how dark Sutter's life was and the tragedy that it encompassed. As a defence Mechanism Sutter finds comfort in drinking and has adopted a philosophy of living in the Now.

The Spectacular Now's name alone speaks the fact that movie is trying to comfort these distressed teens by showing that the image teenagers form about life being painful and miserable is just there in our heads and they can easily make things nicer for them by showing will!

In total 250 people faced verdicts in the said case, out of which 19 defendants including Ex Army Chief Basbug were sentenced to life imprisonment while 64 defendants faced imprisonment sentences ranging from 1 to 45 years. Also Turkish Court acquitted 21 people of charges against them.

Other accusations levelled included plotting to kill the now Prime Minister Erdogan, a noble laureate Orhan Pamuk and other high profile targets.

The most prominent Defendant in the case, ilker basbug who was the army chief between 2008-10 in turkey was convicted for the internet sites that were posed as hostile towards the Government. The second most prominent figure was Brigadier General Veli Kucuk who has been sentenced to double life on charges that he ran Death Squads in South East parts of turkey; other then that two parliamentarians, that is to say a university founder and Surgeon Mehmet Haberal and a Journalist Mustafa Balbay were sentenced to imprisonment of 12 and 34 years respectively. There are many people who are in favour of the convictions while there are also many others who believe otherwise. Both have their reasons, many have staged protest against the convictions stating it was highly unfair. After the Convictions the whole country has been divided into two factions, one is those ultra nationalists who are accused of being behind the scenes force and those secularists who believe that Islamist Government is trying to undermine the secularism in the country.

Possibilities for OSCARS 2014

OSCARS-2014
With some experience and observation it is not difficult to presume that best contenders for the Best picture this year may be Tracy Letts Pulitzer Prize winning play named August: Osage County which is about a dysfunctional family; the film with the same name has an Excellent ensemble Cast including Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts, that alone is enough to buy this film a nomination at OSCARS for best picture. Other then this another high contender is 'The Monuments Men' directed, co-produced and co-written by George Clooney; a Wartime Drama with a group of people trying to protect some precious artwork from Nazis. Other then these two The Great Gatsby featuring Leonardo Decaprio is also up in the nomination list. All these high profile films deserve to be nominated but as a personal opinion I will say that there is one other Movie ''The Reluctant Fundamentalist'' that deserves the top position due to exceptional story, perfect music and created with courage to point out some realities that need to be addressed. Its too good not to be at least considered for the top spot.

It is most probable that the contenders for this years Best Director will be Tom Hanks for Saving Mr. Banks, Michael Fassbender for Twelve Years a Slave, Mark Rufflo for Fox Catcher and Mathew McConaughey for The Wolf of Wall Street. It seems like the Oscar for best actor will also result in some tough competition as Lenardo Dicaprio and Tom Hanks will be competing via The Wolf of Wall Street and Captain Phillips Respectively. on the other hand for best Actress, Meryl Streep seems to be a very strong contender along with Judi Dench for Philomena and Sandra Bullock for Gravity.

OSCARS-2014
Ellen DeGeneres
Motion Pictures Academy has announced that Ellen DeGeneres will be hosting this years Oscar Award Ceremony at 8 p.m, March 2 2014 on ABC. It will be the second time first being the one in 2007, that she will get to entertain everyone at the ceremony with her natural ability to make people laugh. They really did made the right decision by choosing Ellen, it may even raise their ratings this time triple fold.

Sharmeen-Obaid-Chinoy

Ellen hosting the show is very exciting for me but what's even more exciting is that this year Pakistan will submit a movie for Foreign Film Category after almost 50 years. Pakistan first submitted a film named 'Jago hua savera' for the category back in 1959 and then the second one in 1960 named Ghunghat. A committee free from state involvement has been formulated with Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy chairing it and includes the Writer of 'The Reluctant Fundamentalist' Mohsin Hameed; Directors Mehreen Jabaar, Akifa Mian and Samina Peerzada along with actor Rahat Kazmi and Arts Academic Framji Minwalla. With the revival of cinema in Pakistan this year Sharmeen will have 23 well directed movies to select from and it sure will be very difficult choice to make!

Is Al-Qaeda really up to something big?

Interpol-issues-global-alert
DI Khan Jail
Today we live in societies with so much issues that hold us back, back from progress and development not only in terms of physical needs but also the thinking process. Poverty, corrupt social norms and lack of education with so many more are the issues that are consistently plaguing almost all societies for a century. Unfair to say that these severe issues were not doing so before but now in the present day, when world has been transformed into a global village it is very easy to address these issues if only we have the will to do so!

Today in many unprivileged societies at large and in others to some extent that call themselves educated and progressive; Extremism and intolerance have been rooted deep into these societies due to internal as well as external factors. Many sociologists have formed a conclusion after thorough research that Extremism nurtures intolerance and ultimately terrorism all across; All these issues also have origins in other issues like for example the one I described above, Poverty and lack of education etc.

Al-Qaeda is a global terrorist organization that is highly organized and  is devoted to attacking military as well as civil targets all round the globe, it views all the liberal Muslims, non-Sunnis and Sufi's as heretics. It was important to mention above issues because Al-Qaeda and all other Militant organizations exploit these issues to their advantage all the time. Also I as literate obligation to say here that all the misconceptions about Islam are wrong. A religion never promotes extremism and most of all Islam is all about being balanced in everything and not taking extremes. Al-Qaeda along with all other terrorists are just a minute portion of Muslim population that are damaging our image in front of whole world.

Recently there has been jailbreaks making headlines in media, these incidents occurred in 9 countries including Pakistan, Libya and Iraq. United States closed embassies in some 21 countries followed by Britain announcing to do so in Yemen and Canada in Bangladesh respectively. Interpol also issued an alert globally that there is a huge possibility that Al-Qaeda was behind the incidents and may plan more in near future. It also requested its member countries to cooperate in any way possible to confirm whether these were isolated or interlinked events. According to latest reports some 500 convicts broke out in Libya, 1100 in Libya while 150 in Pakistan.

United States warned its citizens against foreign travel saying:

"Current information suggests that Al-Qaeda and affiliated organisations continue to plan terrorist attacks both in the region and beyond, and that they may focus efforts to conduct attacks in the period between now and the end of August".

So the big question whether Al-Qaeda is behind these incidents or not? and are they planning to carry out more of these breakouts along with other terror activities? Considering the Fact that many of their Senior Commanders with Osama at the top of the list have been killed in the previous years its not hard to comprehend for an answer!

Game of Thrones owes growing popularity to Red Wedding

Game-of-thrones
Lannisters sent their regards!
Fantasy Series have always garnered massive amounts of fan base, all of it starts with fantasy books that are written to blurt out a whole new world that depicts our own in so many ways and then these best sellers lead way on screen to become popular series of all time with a fan base that cant be measured in terms of counts. Almost everyone who comes in contact falls for them immediately , at least every one from our Generation ;) All these Fantasy movies based on novels like Lord of the rings, Harry Potter and Chronicles of Narnia have had their fair share of fan base for showing us realities of life through whole new territory. Game of thrones also follows the same line except it's creators deemed it good to do it via Drama series rather then a film.

The fantasy genre has been promoted by television series that is to say that Game of thrones broadened the fan circle of fantasy, no doubts being a big budget series did help big time by materializing an amazing story into amazing drama series with very impressive visuals and cinematography.

The Series is based on several plots each one interlinking with the other that encircle around Westeros and Essos; through these plot lines several severe issues like Civil War, loyalty, honesty, Crime, Religion, Corruption, Conspiracies and may other are addressed perfectly via various well portrayed characters. Three plots in the series are civil war between seven elite houses for the Iron throne, the evil that has emerged again in the North and attempt by last heir of exiled Targaryen dynasty to reclaim what was taken from them by force and deceit.

All the interlinked plots and confusing stories that revolve around characters make the overall plot more complex, while watching it every detail has to be comprehended quite carefully and that is where Game of Thrones mainly garnered its success. Viewers were estranged by the series because instead of being simplistic like many series in the same genre it was much more complex.

Game of thrones has managed to grab as many as 16 Emmy nominations this year, thanks to all the social media following that was created as a direct result of Red wedding a.k.a Rains of Castamere treat and those reaction videos that emerged after the episode made the story go viral. Other then this years Emmy nominations Game of thrones has been able to have Primetime Emmy Nomination for Drama series in all three seasons, Golden Globe Award Nomination for Best Television series, Primetime Emmy Award for Best supporting Actor and Golden Globe Award for Best supporting Actor. The last two wins on its plate are of none other but Tyrion Lannister who has won much more then just awards among the fan base.
The Moment when you realize something horrible is about to happen
Sure Awards are just a measure of performance! but they mostly stem out of vast popularity that they enjoy among their fan base round the Globe. while gauging the popularity one will find it quite hard that recent big up in the popularity owes big time to Red Wedding.
